The Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA) issued this Tuesday the second Consolidated Report of Clarifications, Rectifications or Expansions (Icsara) corresponding to the HVDC Kimal-Lo Aguirre project, as part of the evaluation process that began this initiative in October 2023.

The document includes observations from 65 State administration bodies with environmental competence and also reports the conformity of several services with this project that contemplates the construction of the first direct current transmission line in the country, which will extend between the Antofagasta and Metropolitan regions.

The company assured that the first Icsara was a key opportunity to address major requirements and make the necessary adjustments in Addendum 1. In this respect, they specified that in this new instance the objective is to deepen the information referred to the project and the area of influence required by the utilities.

Thus, the current report is framed within the matters that Conexión Kimal-Lo Aguirre -owner of the initiative- has addressed and reviewed on an ongoing basis, which considers the observations of the bodies in the public file.

Sebastián Fernández, general manager of the company, highlighted the importance of the technical report, noting that “this document is a key component in the development and regulatory process of our project, reflecting the progress made in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA). The issuance of this second technical Icsara marks a milestone in the technical-environmental evaluation of the project, consolidating the work done since the presentation of the first Addendum last November 22 and allowing us to continue with the analysis of the background information provided”.

Other advances

In December 2024, the Superintendency of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) approved the admission of the electricity concessions for the entire route. Subsequently, progress was made with the publication of the public, private and national properties for public use, with the purpose of notifying the special easement plans and, through this, informing the owners of these properties about the easement.

Additionally, the National Electric Coordinator approved Relevant Milestone No. 2, which also makes it possible to move forward with the last phase of the detailed engineering, as well as the start of the first load tests of the structures for the HVDC line.
