On Tuesday, April 2, a collaboration agreement was signed between Conexión Kimal – Lo Aguirre, the company in charge of the development, construction and operation of the HVDC Kimal Lo Aguirre transmission project, and the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), an institution noted for its research and training in various areas of engineering, including electrical engineering.

The agreement facilitates access to reciprocal information and allows professionals, students and academics from both institutions to participate in training and technology transfer activities.

The institutions hope to provide more opportunities for students, but also to promote academic research and the development of new knowledge in the challenges of incorporating projects in Chile in direct current, project engineering, security, smart grids, among others.

During the activity, held at the UTFSM in Valparaiso, the rector Juan Yuz Eissmann, said that “the collaboration between our University and Conexión, not only gives us the opportunity to strengthen our role of training professionals and leaders capable of facing the challenges of our time, but also represents a significant step on the road to a more sustainable Chile, through projects such as the transmission of energy from the Norte Grande to the center of the country. This alliance encourages us to work hand in hand, joining efforts and knowledge in pursuit of a common goal”.

In turn, the general manager of Conexión Kimal – Lo Aguirre, Sebastián Fernández, said that “with this agreement we seek to foster collaboration and promote knowledge and innovation in energy, particularly on direct current projects. On the other hand, we find it very beneficial that the students have the opportunity to share the experience of our team of specialist engineers on the development, construction and operation of one of the most iconic projects for the country in terms of transmission and a decisive step in the energy transition”.
